The A331, nicknamed “Beehive,” is one of Alvar Aalto’s most popular lighting designs. Suitable for both residential and public spaces, “Beehive” produces a warm, diffused light when switched on, which is due to the ingenious design with multiple rows of perforated steel rings. True to its nickname, “Beehive” retains its distinctive sculptural presence even when unlit and was originally designed in 1953 for the Finnish University of Jyväskylä.
